Perceptions and opinions of pet caregivers in mainland and Hong Kong China about surgery, pain management, and anesthesia in dogs and cats

ABSTRACT
Small animal caregivers' perceptions and previous life experiences play a pivotal role in patient care, making effective communication fundamental within the veterinary business. Despite large growing scale of pet industry, data on small client-centered information about services Mainland China (MC) Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) are lacking. The objective this study was to investigate opinions caregivers surgery, pain management, anesthesia dogs cats these geographical regions through validated online survey using content validity index. A total 2080 valid answers were collected by convenience sampling over 45 days. Descriptive statistics used summarize data; chi-square test generalized linear models associations between demographics responses. Overall, appeared favorable toward use analgesia their pets, with concerns potential adverse effects produced analgesic drugs. Joint ear infections generally rated as conditions that would be less prone require analgesia. Significant observed for demographic factors such gender, age, area, whether participants healthcare providers, pets had undergone surgery before. Although many respondents expressed uncertainty recognizing administering analgesics, they also desire learn informed. This highlights areas may determine form unique human-animal bond China. Client should addressed case-by-case basis adapted individual background have an ultimate impact treatment goals care.
