ABSTRACT
Isolated splenic cystic echinococcosis is a rare condition. In Greece the number of cases has declined substantially in last 20 years. The spleen second most common extrahepatic site echinococcosis. Albendazole safe, but mebendazole can be used as substitute, case adverse reaction. Our patient was diagnosed with isolated echinococcal cyst, during investigation for newly type 2 diabetes mellitus. We opted elective splenectomy, based on risk assessment due to patient's working conditions, and treatment albendazole represented safety measure until surgery possible. developed acute hepatocellular injury after eight weeks treatment. This confirmed through rechallenge discontinuation drug. Postsplenectomy proved safe no reactions. Even though, known monitoring hepatic enzymes full blood count should offered. toxicities, or without praziquantel used. Toxicity similar trial worthwhile. our patient, uneventful
