ABSTRACT
Background: Toxocariasis is one of the most widely distributed zoonoses in world. Clinical forms presentation are:asymptomatic, ocular larva migrans(OLM) and visceral migrans(VLM). Methods & Materials: We retrospectively studied children with toxocariasis assisted a pediatric hospital Buenos Aires from January 2012 to June 2017.Data were drawn medical charts analyzed using Epi.Info7.2. Results: In 73 patients was diagnosed, 71.2% (n = 52)had asymptomatic infection. Mean age 76 months(SD:40.44) mean eosinophil count, 2402/mm (SD:1602). VLM found 9 children(12%) 12 had OLM(16%). Among VLM, 43 months(SD:22.44) count: 13,429/mm (SD:13.398), significantly higher than 2 other clinical forms.Four asymptomatic, diarrhea abdominal pain, polyadenopathies, 1 prolonged febrile syndrome, asthenia lost weight. Liver involvement by ultrasound 8 pneumonitis pericarditis. OLM, 93 months (SD:46.56)and count 537/mm (DS:373).Six decreased visual acuity, 5 strabismus, leukocoria, red eye. One patient presented central nervous system (hemorrhagic stroke) admitted faciobrachiocrural hemiparesis.Diagnosis made reactive serology ELISA confirmed Western Blott 81%.OLM diagnosed ophthalmological examination. They eosinophilia 58% 75%.VLM active OLM received treatment albendazole at 15 mg/kg/day.All cases sequelae,50% retinal detachment loss vision affected Asyntomatic good evolution. Conclusion: line settings frequent form this study asymptomatic. Children younger counts eosinophils forms. Patients LMO sequelae 100% 50%.Due lack diagnostic studies that allow predicting which subjects will evolve or compromise, controversies arise management disease.
