ABSTRACT
Hydatid disease usually affects the liver, but can also extend to other locations, such as bones. In these cases, complete resection of bone is considered only curative approach. However, this rarely feasible, and patients are left with benzimidazoles their option. context, there an evident need for alternative treatments that improve results. We present case a patient treatment-refractory hydatid cyst bone, who successfully underwent radiotherapy (RT).A 64-year-old woman was diagnosed in sacroiliac joint caused her sciatalgia paresthesia. She treatment albendazole surgery, treated further doses after relapsing six months later. After 2 years, she required new resection, achieving stable more years. At point, began suffer from intense pain (visual analogue scale 6/10). Given surgery no longer (54 Gy 27 fractions). No treatment-related toxicity observed. 1 month radiotherapy, had completely disappeared; 9 later, remains asymptomatic. The titer anti-Echinococcus-granulosus antibodies absolute volume eosinophils decreased radiotherapy. radiologically stable.Although studies needed, seems be effective cysts refractory treatments.
