Sporadic neurofibroma of transverse colon in a patient without neurofibromatosis type 1: A case report

ABSTRACT
The occurrence of sporadic colonic neurofibroma particularly in a patient without neurofibromatosis type 1 has been rarely reported. Therefore, the clinical significance this disease not fully elucidated. An 81-year-old woman with positive fecal occult blood test result was referred to our institution for evaluation anemia. On colonoscopy, 50-mm submucosal tumor-like mass found hepatic flexure colon. Superficial biopsy and boring showed unspecific granulation tissues, immunostaining revealed that mesenchymal tumor negative CD34, c-kit, desmin, S100 protein. underwent laparoscopic right colectomy complete mesocolic excision (CME). Pathologically, diagnosed as neurofibroma. Gastrointestinal neurofibromas are known cause symptoms. No before resection. Moreover, neurofibromas, large lesions, reportedly undergo malignant transformation. Surgical extirpation clear margins is primary treatment, surgery considered acceptable colon cancer. Based on experience, preoperative diagnosis impossible Laparoscopic CME feasible
