Compartment syndrome following intramuscular self-injection of kerosene and rodenticide: A case report

ABSTRACT
Kerosene and rodenticides are used in many households developing countries. This case report aims to discuss the progression management of a patient with intentional kerosene rodenticide poisoning. To our knowledge, this is first documented blended kerosene-rodenticide poisoning medical literature. describes 23-year-old man who survived after intramuscular self-injection 5 ml mixed into his left upper limb, intent commit suicide. He was admitted hospital following convulsion brief loss consciousness. Compartment syndrome developed within 24 h admission, necessitating urgent fasciotomy, repeated surgical debridement, limb elevation, wound cleaning dressing, addition intravenous fluids, antibiotics, close observation. Blood transfusion, phytomenadione (vitamin K1), tetanus toxoid, analgesics were recommended. The also received physiotherapy, treated for depression. healed completely, contractures at wrist joint. Injected may result compartment variable local systemic complications which require multifaceted care prolonged follow-up period. Seemingly minor injuries presentation quickly progress considerable such as syndrome. It imperative that physicians comprehensively investigate patients multiorgan dysfunction. Anticipation injected poisons timely intervention life-saving.
