ABSTRACT
Highlights•ScRNA-seq of pancreatic islets comparing virgin, pregnant, and postpartum mice•Islet cell types exhibit unique transcriptomic responses in pregnancy postpartum•β-cells show induction immediate early genes (IEGs) postpartum•IEGs β-cells do not correlate with apoptosis may mediate survivalSummaryPancreatic β-cell mass expands during regresses the period conjunction dynamic metabolic demands on maternal glucose homeostasis. To understand transcriptional changes driving these adaptations other islet types, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing from late gestation, mice. We identified signatures to gestation β-cells, including AP-1 transcription factor subunits involved immediate-early response (IEGs). In addition, found postpartum-induced differed within each endocrine type, endothelial cells antigen-presenting islets. Together, our data reveal insights into type–specific responsible for by their resolution postpartum.Graphical abstract
