ABSTRACT
The centrality of a place reflects its relative importance in serving other places, and quantifying is prerequisite for assessing the urban spatial structure facilitates policy-making sustainable development. Two important aspects are amount service it provides to places diversity serves. For example, central city attracts not only many people but also from various cities. However, few existing measures can address two simultaneously. In this study, following idea scholar's H-index, we propose novel flow-based locational measure, X-index, which quantifies by considering both volume directions flows toward an automated way. We demonstrate effectiveness advantages X-index over common Chinese cities grid cells Beijing. results show that: (1) successfully detect all official national reveal hierarchy (2) positively correlated with variety functions cells, consistent theory.
