ABSTRACT
Abstract The various degrees of equilibrium which are possible in the two-phase co-existence region of metal hydride systems will be reviewed. Some of these lead to invariant p H 2 and others to sloping plateaux. The effect of hysteresis on the thermodynamic properties of metal hydrides is discussed. Recent advances in theoretical first principle calculations of the energy of hydride formation are reviewed.
