ABSTRACT
Project Description: Research has shown that disclosing genetic risk information about Alzheimer's disease (AD) to volunteer populations does not create distress in the year following disclosure, and can motivate changes advance planning health behaviors. However, little is known long-term impact of disclosure. The potential exists for increase over time motivation behavior change decrease. REVEAL Study a series multisite randomized controlled trials examining psychological behavioral using APOE genotyping determine AD risk. A subset individuals who participated first three were asked complete validated scales assessing general anxiety, depression, test-related 1.5-10 years after genotype Additional yes/no questions responses. Of 472 invited, 291 (62%) responded (mean age 62.5; 63% female; 13% African American; 90% with AD-affected parent or sibling). Mean scores 3.9 (95%CI: 3.3-4.5) on Beck Anxiety Inventory 7.5 6.6-8.4) Center Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, well below cutoffs clinical concern no differences by status (p=0.08 0.64, respectively). distress, as measured Impact Event was also concern, but greater among ε4-positive respondents than ε4-negative (4.7 vs 2.8, p=0.022). more likely report adding care insurance (12% 4%, p=0.022), modifying living wills (5% 1%, p=0.035), improving behaviors (64% 41%, p<0.0001). Current unassociated any outcomes except changes, where those older 65 less modifications younger 65, regardless (OR=0.57, p=0.026). This study evaluate results. Findings suggest described previously between health-related persist years. show evidence increased risks, even subjects approach ages onset.
