ABSTRACT
The Argentina- Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (Arg-ADNI) study is a longitudinal prospective cohort of 60 participants at single institution from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Arg-ADNI the first worldwide ADNI center in Latin America and Hispanic community-dwelling subjects worldwide. Baseline assessments have been done on 15 normal controls, 28 mild cognitive impairment (MCI) 13 AD dementia subjects, with 4 lost to follow-up. For Arg-ADNI, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Pittsuburgh compound B positron emission tomography (11C-PiB PET) parameters ADNI-II were adopted neuropsychological tests selected permit comparison data. has completed 12-month follow-up available baseline results. All underwent clinical assessment, 3 Tesla MRI scans, blood collection immortalized lymphoblasts ApoE testing, fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET 11C-PiB PET. At least 80% donated sample CSF via lumbar puncture. Cross-sectional analysis data revealing links between cognition, structural brain changes, biomarkers. Among patients MCI baseline, progressed 12 months for progression rate 10.7%. amyloid deposition by PIB-PET scan CSF, left hippocampal volume separated groups correlated memory performance, one core across disease trajectory. finished recruitment, annual Argentine as part pilot phase. Subjects will undergo assessment clinical, MRI, blood, measures 30 after inclusion. With phase now underway, all investigators team hope develop new pathway create multi-site Argentina, intention using these preliminary results obtained seek continuation funding local international agencies. Follow-up larger more representative cohort, particularly related biomarkers, allow better characterization our country, perhaps point unique environmental factors influencing health South America.
