Awareness and practice of dentists in gulf cooperation council countries regarding medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw – A web-based survey

ABSTRACT
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a serious complication among dental patients undergoing treatment with antiresorptive medications such as bisphosphonate and denosumab. The present survey investigated awareness practice dentists in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries regarding MRONJ. This questionnaire-based study was conducted practitioners all six GCC countries. A questionnaire designed distributed potential participants via different social media platforms. SPSS version 22 used for data analysis, P-value <0.05 considered statistically significant. Overall, 1685 from participated study. surveyed revealed relatively fair practices MRONJ its prevention, majority reported asking their about history anti-osteoporotic (67.8%), recording name medication (73.1%) duration (75.5%). However, were unconfident drug holiday prior to surgical interventions (70.6%) overall good level knowledge/practice related just 50.6%. regression analysis that previous exposure cases attending seminar, course, meeting, or conference independent predictors positive awareness/good (P < 0.05). results show inadequate practicing MRONJ, significant variations Therefore, appropriate periodic continuous education courses are required improve dentists' knowledge
