ABSTRACT
Cultivation of medicinal crops, which synthesize hundreds substances for curative functions, was focused on the synthesis secondary metabolites rather than biomass accumulation. Nutrition is an important restrict factor plant growth and metabolites, but little attention has been given to plasticity nutrient uptake response soil nitrogen (N) change. Two year-field experiments Sanqi (Panax notoginseng), can a high level saponin in cells, were conducted study effects N application temporal dynamics biomass, absorption, root architecture relationships between these parameters synthesis. Increasing fertilizer rates could improve dry matter yields absorption ability through increasing maximum daily (or uptake) rate. Under suitable (225 kg/ha N), restricted length surface enhanced diameter rate per (NURI) promote opposite status NURI found when deficient. Furthermore, accumulation roots improving NURI, showed significant positive relationship with content taproots. Appropriate optimize both efficiency, then saponins.
