ABSTRACT
As we reported previously, caloric restriction (CR) results in an increased concentration of bile acids (BA) the intestinal mucosa. We now investigated background this phenotype, trying to identify nutrition-related factors modulating BA levels. Male mice were submitted various types restrictive diets and levels expression associated measured. found that is liver CR mice, which corresponds reduced Shp gene elevated mRNA Cyp27a1, Bal, Ntcp, as well CYP7A1 protein expression. Correlation between decreased BAs feces, plasma, transporters ileum mucosa suggests enhanced uptake intestine mice. Corresponding upregulation mucosa, was animals other prolonged energy-restricting dietary protocols, including intermittent fasting fasting-mimicking diet. While over-night had negligible impact on Manipulation macronutrient partly affected balance. Low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet but not intestine. Carbohydrate stimulates synthesis liver, energy required for increase its uptake.
