ABSTRACT
Caffeic acid has been indicated to benefit cholesterol balance, but the effect of pure caffeic on atherosclerosis in vivo not tested. Given that and Alzheimer's disease share common features including distracted lipid balance chronic inflammation, concurrent effects atherosclerotic lesions cognitive decline were explored here by using ApoE-/- mice model. A two months' administration 20 mg/kg or saline was given once days intraperitoneally 5-month-old female mice. We found treatment reduced whole aorta aortic sinus resulting 7-month-old roughly 50%, compared with control. Meanwhile, treated significantly alleviated, as measured Y-maze Morris water maze tasks. accumulation β-amyloid hippocampus also observed. These associated elevated serum HDL-c concentration, upregulated ABCA1 ABCG1 mRNA levels, well decrease local inflammation levels pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6 MCP-1. obtained results suggested preventive therapeutic potential against during aging.
