ABSTRACT
ObjectiveBovine pericardial patch (BPP) is currently used in femoral angioplasty as an alternative for autologous vein (AVP), but studies comparing the results of two methods are scarce. In this retrospective study, we aimed to discover differences between BPP and AVP closure long-term durability.MethodsThis study consisted all endarterectomies with performed Helsinki University Hospital from January 1, 2014, December 31, 2017. For comparison, same number consecutive patients who underwent endarterectomy October 16, 2016, were reviewed. Follow-up ended 2020. The mean follow-up was 19 months (range, 0-74 months) group 22 0-79 group. primary endpoint patency. Secondary endpoints restenosis at site detected by imaging or perioperatively, rupture, deep surgical wound infection. Propensity score analysis adjustment groups.ResultsOverall patency superior compared group: 1 year, 96.5% vs 85.0% 5 years, 83.0% 72.3% (P = .04). propensity score-matched pairs (n 92), no difference found groups patency: 95.7% year 92.5% 78.6% years .861) freedom restenosis: 100% 89.1% 84.0% .057). Deep infections occurred slightly more often after (8%) than (4%), not statistically significant .144). There ruptures group, there five (3.5%) .024).ConclusionsBPP compatible can be regarded safer choice considering risk rupture.
