ABSTRACT
Characterizing prediabetes phenotypes may be useful in guiding diabetes prevention efforts; however, heterogeneous criteria to define have led inconsistent prevalence estimates, particularly low- and middle-income countries. Here, we estimated trends Mexico across different definitions their association with prevalent cardiometabolic conditions. We conducted a serial cross-sectional analysis of National Health Nutrition Surveys (2016-2022), totalling 22 081 Mexican adults. After excluding individuals diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes, defined using ADA (impaired fasting glucose [IFG] 100-125 mg/dL and/or HbA1c 5.7-6.4%), WHO (IFG 110-125 mg/dL), IEC (HbA1c 6.0-6.4%). Prevalence over time were evaluated weighted Poisson regression its conditions logistic regression. The (either IFG high [ADA]) was 20.9% 2022. Despite an overall downward trend (RR 0.973, 95% CI 0.957-0.988), this primarily driven by decreases ADA-IFG 0.898, 0.880-0.917) WHO-IFG 0.919, 0.886-0.953), while ADA-HbA1c 1.055, 1.033-1.077) IEC-HbA1C 1.085, 1.045-1.126) increased time. Prediabetes adults >40 years, central obesity, self-identified as indigenous living urban areas. For all definitions, associated risk conditions.Prediabetes rates from 2016 2022 varied based on defining but consistently for HbA1c-based high-risk subgroups. This research supported Instituto Nacional de Geriatría Mexico.
