Conservation and development of the historic garden in a landscape context: A systematic literature review

ABSTRACT
Although there have been numerous studies on the heritage attributes, characteristics, and values of historic garden as a special category cultural heritage, question is why comprehensive review combining mainstream conservation with ways understanding in landscape context has not conducted. Landscape an integrative concept that combines physical features diversity functions social ecological processes throughout scales time space. Therefore, this means applying approach to explore organic connection between scale evolution architectonic elements relation each other. To elaborate, instead viewing object one specific temporal-spatial frame, such focuses site order identify persistent structures other values. The method used study involved paper coding qualitative analysis combined bibliometric visualization software. We reviewed 162 interconnections approach. result are three correspondences approaches different stages garden's development: identifying characteristics using mapping, demonstrating gardens' based planning, exploring potential development reuse through design. Finally, we discuss research gaps outline action framework for gardens context.
