ABSTRACT
Abstract The influence of severe plastic deformation via high pressure torsion (HPT) on texture, deformation twinning and hardening in a newly developed Mg–Dy–Al–Zn–Zr alloy was observed in this study. Test specimens were cast, solution annealed, aged at 250 °C and 300 °C, and then subject to three revolutions of HPT at room temperature. Microhardness measurements were performed in order to evaluate structural changes introduced via ageing and deformation processing, while electron backscatter diffraction analyses (EBSD) were performed to evaluate texture and grain misorientations. Results showed that both, ageing temperatures and HPT processing significantly affected texture as well as twinning. Microhardness nearly doubled due to deformation processing, especially for aged samples.
