ABSTRACT
Extraordinary fretting fatigue endurance is critical for engineering structures prone to contact with expected long service lifetimes. Here, we propose a strategy achieve ultrahigh in titanium alloy. A special hierarchical structure, i.e. gradient amorphous-nanocrystalline grain/coarse grain, was designed TB8 alloy via surface severe plastic deformation, which forms an nanocomposite structure comprising of and nano-lamellae β α phase transformation upon repeated wear. The suppress cracks initiation propagation, resulting the high life that 30.2-times higher than original triggering exceptional phenomenon where damage-crack initiate towards interior non-fretting zone. This study provides new insight into improving alloys.
