ABSTRACT
Abstract A novel solid-state metathesis approach [ZnCl 2 + KF → KZnF 3 + KCl] has been applied to synthesize complex fluorides of the type KMF 3 (M Mg, Mn, Zn and Co) that are of technological importance. Formation of high lattice energy by-product KCl is the driving force for such a reaction resulting in the desired product formation. The structural and chemical properties of the synthesized powders are determined by powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.
