ABSTRACT
Abstract In this work, a micro-texture through laser ablation pre-treatment on aluminum alloy surface was designed, which successfully induced high bonding strength of aluminum alloy-polymer friction stir welding joints. The bonding mechanism of aluminum alloy-polymer was attributed to the large mechanical interlocking from the geometric grooves in micro-textures and the formation of C–O–Al bond at the interfaces. This study provides new insight of friction stir welding of metal and polymer through controllable surface pre-treatments.
