ABSTRACT
Heavy metal pollution in surface waters has become a major worldwide issue as people tend to settle where there is readily available source of water like river. This research evaluates the causes, concentration and associated health risks heavy metals River Sosiani it passes through town Eldoret. Seven samples were collected analysed for zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) lead (Pb. The results disclosed that Pb concentrations estimated be range 0.06 mg/l 0.23 mg/l, higher than permitted limit by WHO 0.01 mg/l. Cu Zn levels below permissible limits. chronic daily intake (CDI) indicated total hazard quotient non-cancer risk was above one HI values children greatly elevated compared those adults studied area. showed high exposure Pb. Health human assessed incremental life cancer (ILCR) all sites found negligible with 10-6. However, far concerned. Therefore, measures should taken accordance standards prevent potential river pollution.•Human activities make significant contribution which threat humans.•Water from not safe use domestically are concerned.•The this study can used decision makers develop improve quality catchment.
