Exploring community perceptions and engagement of nature-based solutions: The case of Ningbo, a Chinese coastal sponge city

ABSTRACT
Sustainable stormwater management facilities such as strip bioretention, effectively improve the urban landscape's quality and aesthetics. The progress of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Blue-Green Developments Sponge City Program (SCP) in Chinese cities, is significantly delivering multiple benefits to address water, climate ecosystem services. These practices are transforming environmental context enhancing wider aspects social-environmental interactions participation. This study will particularly focus on investigating SCP implemented for several years Ningbo, a selected pilot city east coast China. There currently lack substantial findings from perspective communities towards NBS China or an understanding importance participation engagement processes infrastructure cities. Through in-depth semi-structured interview (n=34), this elucidate previous developments, current challenges future delivery constructed (e.g. artificial wetland). article undertake detailed investigation public perceptions, channels learning, opportunities further case Ningbo. In study, we found that perception likely education about would foster closer human-nature connections co-production deliver better practices.
