ABSTRACT
The positive relationship between hippocampal structure, aerobic fitness, and memory performance is often observed among children older adults; but evidence of this young adults, for whom the hippocampus neither developing nor atrophying, less consistent. Studies have typically relied on volumetry (a gross proxy tissue composition) to assess individual differences in structure. While volume not specific microstructural characteristics, integrity may exist even healthy adults when volumetric are diagnostic health or cognitive function. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) an emerging noninvasive imaging technique measuring viscoelastic properties provides quantitative measures integrity. We previously demonstrated that viscoelasticity related a relational task; however, little known about correlates novel measure. In current study, we investigated cardiovascular health, their mutual effect group (N=51). replicated our previous finding with performance. extend work by demonstrating better as measured VO2max, was associated mediated benefits fitness Hippocampal volume, did account memory. Therefore, these data suggest provide more sensitive measure organization its consequences cognition adults.
