ABSTRACT
Currently, no rapid and specific instrument is available to briefly estimate intelligence in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1), a multisystemic disease that involves the CNS associated cognitive deficits low intellectual functioning. This study aimed develop DM1-specific valid short-form of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) functioning this population. Thirty non-congenital DM1 (10 female; mean age=46.77; SD= 9.76) were assessed WAIS-IV. Data analyzed following two independent strategies: A) multiple linear regression aim maintaining scale's factorial structure; B) correlational analyses between scores on all WAIS-IV subtests Full-Scale IQ (FSIQ). Validity resulting short-forms was also analyzed. Three developed: Proposal A from strategy (Vocabulary, Block Design, Arithmetic Symbol Search), B1 Digit Span Visual Puzzles) B2 (Vocabulary Design), B. All three showed strong significant correlation FSIQ considered psychometrically acceptable. Arguments favor are discussed. Assessing these will be useful for avoiding long assessment procedures population characterized by high fatigability.
