ABSTRACT
Little is known about how combining a probiotic with prebiotic dietary fiber affects the ability of either biotic to improve health. We hypothesized that prebiotic, high-amylose maize type 2-resistant starch (RS) together Lactiplantibacillus plantarum NCIMB8826 (LP) as complementary synbiotic results in additive effects on gut microbiota diet-induced obese mice and other body sites. Diet-induced C57BL/6J male were fed high-fat diet adjusted contain RS (20% by weight), LP (109 cells every 48 hours), or both (RS+LP) for 6 weeks. As found RS, cecal bacterial alpha diversity was significantly reduced given RS+LP compared those controls. Similarly, also conferred lower quantities butyrate serum histidine higher ileal TLR2 transcript levels adipose tissue interleukin-6 protein. LP, RS+LP-fed had colonic TH17 cytokines, epididymal fat immune oxidative stress responses, carnitine levels, increased hepatic palmitoyl transferase 1α. Notably, consumed separately, there synergistic increases glucose amino acids well antagonistic RS-mediated adiponectin urinary toxin levels. Our findings show it not possible fully predict outcomes applications based tested separately; therefore, studies should be conducted test new formulations.
