ABSTRACT
Satoumi has long been practiced in Japan and is recently being promoted pursuit of sustainable integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) biodiversity conservation. considered as "a sea where high productivity conservation biological diversity are achieved through human intervention harmony with natural ecosystems." In this study, four satoumi cases were selected, Shiretoko, Ago Bay, Hinase, Nanao order to assess their effectiveness management, conservation, socioeconomic impacts. all cases, positive changes local ecosystems found, including an increase biodiversity, improvement water quality, restoration ecosystems. There also significant outcomes such involvement wider stakeholders, mainstreaming promotion products tourism. Also, by comparing the some key characteristics that contribute identified. These setting clear targets, leadership persons, driving force important stakeholders fishers businesses, who have a profound historical stake management.
