ABSTRACT
Abstract We present a novel and complete design procedure for a full C-band tunable Y-branch laser. A detailed model that combines the transfer matrix method and the numerical solution of the laser rate equations, is presented. The developed model is used for the design and implementation of both a wavelength and a power controller for the laser. The static and dynamic response of the laser are analyzed and experimentally validated using a Finisar Y-branch laser. The developed system (Y-branch laser and controller) achieves a wavelength accuracy better than 0.08 nm , side mode suppression ratio greater than 50 dB and switching speed between channels faster than 0.2 ms . These results satisfy common laser requirements in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems and many other applications.
