ABSTRACT
The Stinger PDC cutter has high rock-breaking efficiency and excellent impact wear resistance, which can significantly increase the rate of penetration (ROP) extend bit life for drilling hard abrasive formation. knowledge force response mechanical specific energy (MSE) is great importance improving cutter's performance optimizing hybrid design. In this paper, 87 single tests were conducted on granite. A new method precisely obtaining rock broken volume was proposed. influences cutting depth, angle, speed MSE analyzed. Besides, a phenomenological model established by regression experimental data. Moreover, surface topography fracture morphology groove large size cuttings measured 3D profilometer scanning electron microscope (SEM). Finally, mechanism illustrated. results indicated that depth greatest influence MSE, while no obvious effects, especially at low speeds. As increases linearly, reduces with quadratic polynomial relationship. When angle raises from 10° to 30°, firstly decreases then increases. optimal breaking approximately 20°. breaks granite mainly concentrated point loading tensile failure, observably improve efficiency. key findings work will help reveal mechanisms optimize arrangement cutter.
