ABSTRACT
Particulate additives such as perfume microcapsules are present in detergent formulations to add fragrance the washed garments. The key challenge is controlling deposition and retention of particulates onto textile surfaces, a large proportion simply down drain during washing. In this study, influence particle shape on mechanical entrapment within different fabrics assessed using laboratory mixer, which mimics tumbling action washing machine. Using combination image analysis mass balance it found that with rough, irregular particles, level across all fabric types studied increased by factor up 3 times when compared smooth, spherical ones (typically used industry). rate also be dependent duration, tumbler speed well characteristics, especially used.
