Building a Community of Practice to Prepare the HPC Workforce

It has been well documented for more than 30 years, that significantly effort is needed to prepare the HPC workforce today and into future. The Blue Waters Virtual School of Computational Science (VSCSE) provides an innovative model addressing this critical need. VSCSE uses a Small Private Online Course (SPOC) approach providing graduate level credit courses students at multiple institutions. In paper, we describe rationale approach, description implementation, findings from external evaluations, lessons learned. paper concludes with recommendations future strategies build on work address needs our global society.
