ABSTRACT
Using backface strain gauge is a very common technique for structural health monitoring in the adhesively bonded joints while loading. Finite Element (FE) techniques used failure prediction of such are normally validated against load not measurements. However, measurement can be highly influenced by different parameters (such as tolerance thickness bondline, misalignment, etc.). In this work, applicability new location placing back-face gauges on single lap (SLJs) damage detection examined. This based undamaged (healthy) state joint and independent applied load. SLJs were tested under quasi static tension FE models developed validating variation longitudinal bondline experimental quasi-static tests. The influence -which inevitable assembly process testing joint- investigated.
