ABSTRACT
The failure of emission control systems in industrial processes undergoing regulations can cause severe harm to the environment. In this context, safety engineering principles be applied analyze process deviations and identify suitable barriers mitigate harmful emissions during critical events. However, selection, design, assessment proper may complex due several contingencies such as inability perform extensive field tests on under strict regulations. study, an approach is proposed couple conventional hazard identification techniques with a digital model flue gas treatment system support performance for control. Resilience analysis used evaluate behavior most relevant barrier options, selected through screening tools. Barriers are simulated using system, gathering key information their design evaluation, overcoming limitations at real plant. methodology illustrated reference acid removal waste-to-energy facilities, example that typically exposed significant deviations.
