Systematic review of the effectiveness and cultural adaptation of social skills interventions for adolescents with autism spectrum disorders in Asia

ABSTRACT
Social skills interventions have been shown to improve social in adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Because the majority of trialled Western countries, they may not be generalisable Asian countries a different cultural background. The purpose this review was determine efficacy and adaptability for ASD (aged 10–19 years) countries. This incorporated quantitative mixed methods published, peer-reviewed research. Five electronic databases were searched. followed PRISMA guidelines. A meta-analysis conducted by using Revman 5.4 3 studies. In total, 15 studies included (n = 332), across 7 Seven had undergone adaptation (e.g., Hong Kong, South Korea, Israel). Meta-analysis results three comparable showed that improved knowledge ASD. identified particularly those which adapted adolescents' needs preferences, are potentially effective improving skills. However, due study's limitations heterogeneity studies, further research is needed provide strong evidence.
