Effective elastic moduli of Al–Si composites reinforced in situ with TiB2 particles

ABSTRACT
Abstract The moduli of the A356/TiB 2p and A132/TiB 2p composites can be notably improved by TiB 2 particles. The increments of the moduli of the two composites are close to each other at low fraction. However, the increment of modulus of 9.5 vol.%A132/TiB 2p can reach 24 GPa, which is 41.2% higher than that of 9.5 vol.%A356/TiB 2p . A new analytical method is put forward.
