ABSTRACT
The present experimental work verifies that micro-alloying of Mg–9Al–1Zn magnesium alloy with beryllium can lead to significant increase in oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures because the trace beryllium retarded the outward diffusion and vaporisation of Mg ions. Microalloying with Be may enable wider applications of this type of light alloys in automotive and aerospace industries for the purpose of weight reduction.
