ABSTRACT
AbstractGas sensing performance of optical fibers coated with nano-platelet tungsten trioxide (WO3) films and catalytic palladium (Pd) layers were investigated for low concentration hydrogen gas (H2). Nano-platelet WO3 film was formed on the tip of the multimode optical fiber via acid treatment of RF sputtered tungsten (W). After annealing, Pd layer of 25 Å was sputtered as a catalyst. It was found that the optical fiber gas sensor based on the Pd/nano-platelet WO3 film shows a remarkable reflectance response towards very low H2 concentration (0.06%) in synthetic air balance.
