Fostering interdisciplinary working within global surgery at an undergraduate level: A hackathon based approach

ABSTRACT
To investigate the effectiveness of a virtual hackathon in fostering interdisciplinary working amongst undergraduate students global surgery.In this study, we developed 3 day event consisting guest lectures, documentary screening and supported by academics experts field, to provide with opportunity learn more about work teams within surgery. Students had option attend just lectures or both hackathon. Quantitative qualitative results were collected through pre post session survey.A total 21 responses received for 26 general (response rate = %, response 24.7 %). There was significant improvement understanding surgery between post-session survey, an increase median from (IQR 2-3.5, n 21) 4 4-5, (p < 0.05). Respondents noted that benefits it very engaging, brought diversity thought expertise. The drawbacks fast-paced, required prior knowledge platform hosted on.Our study demonstrates hackathons are effective, inclusive equitable way engage working. It is important as institutions recognise develop courses, these courses reflect nature field.
