ABSTRACT
Patients with severe COVID-19 disease frequently develop anaemia as the result of multiple mechanisms and often receive transfusions. The aims this study were to assess impact repeated blood samplings on patients' anaemic state using standard-volume tubes, in comparison hypothetical use low-volume tubes evaluate transfusion policy adopted.Transfusion data mechanically ventilated non-bleeding patients hospitalized ICU for a minimum 20 days recorded. total volume drawn corresponding red cell mass (RBCM) removed during hospitalization each patient calculated compared tubes.Twenty-four fulfilled inclusion criteria. Ten at admission (41.7 %). Overall, 6658 sampling employed, 16,786 mL blood. median RBCM subtracted by per accounted about one third decrease until discharge. would have led saving RBCM. Eleven transfused (45.8 %) mean Hb value 7.7 (± 0.5) g/dL.The amount has significant role development could minimize problem. Large high-powered studies are warranted more appropriate thresholds critically ill disease.
