ABSTRACT
This paper aims to explore and identify the key geopolitical barriers opportunities greater regional integration amongst Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states by examining case study ASEAN single aviation market (ASAM). is based on an ongoing doctoral research project covering topic. To date, has implemented substantial liberalisation its air transport via open skies policy, included as part Community Project. not just foster connectivity economic development, but ultimately contribute building a identity. While there been some evident progress since launch initiative in region, agreement promoted ASAM gained much traction projected, nor achieved core stated aim creating effective market; goal it initially planned achieve end 2015. Most literature explaining divergence between aspirations realities focuses regulation international typically discusses these considerations from perspectives law policy. There are few scholarly works that incorporate geopolitics, aeropolitics and/or diplomacy, all which important variables closely linked field relations. The perspective still largely understudied, this evolving underpinning it, intended identified gap.
