ABSTRACT
PERTINENT is an active hospital-based surveillance system for pertussis in infants. In 2019, four of the six participating European countries recommended vaccination pregnancy. Among infants aged <2 months, we measured vaccine effectiveness (VE) pregnancy; among 2–11 VE pregnancy and primary (PV). From December 2015 to included all <1 year presenting with pertussis-like symptoms. Using a test-negative-design, cases were testing positive Bordetella by PCR or culture. Controls those negative species. Vaccinated mothers who received ≥1 dose PV > 14 days before symptom onset. We excluded unknown maternal status vaccinated ≤14 delivery. calculated pooled as 100 * (1-odds ratio vaccination) adjusted study site, onset date quarters infants’ age group. Of 829 symptoms, 336 (41%) too young PV. For analysis, 75 201 controls. Vaccination was recorded 9 (12%) 92 controls (46%), between 75% [95%CI: 35–91%] 88% 57–96%]. 493 eligible PV, 123 253 Thirty-one 98 both ≥ 1 pregnancy, 74% 33–90] 95% 69–99]; 27 53 only, 68% 27–86] 94% 59–99]. Our findings suggest that reduces incidence only provide significant protection against severe pertussis.
