ABSTRACT
The interleukin-6 (IL-6) pathway has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, main cause cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to characterize predictive value inflammatory biomarkers on long-term mortality patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous intervention (PCI). This prospective observational study included 322 consecutive ACS PCI. Blood-derived IL-6 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) were assessed at time point ACS. Patients followed-up for 6 years. Long-term was our primary endpoint. Adjusted Cox-regression analysis used prediction events. Elevated values (≥3.3 pg/mL) emerged as an independent most powerful predictor mortality: ROC showed that more accurate compared hsCRP (IL-6: AUC = 0.72; 95%CI: 0.62–0.81; p 0.009 vs hsCRP: 0.56; 0.41–0.72; 0.445). positive 9%, negative 99%, sensitivity 94% specificity 48%. endpoint death occurred frequently high low (9.0% 0.5%, 0.001). multivariate Cox regression revealed 8.6-fold higher hazard die than those (<3.3 levels (adj. ratio [HR] 8.60, 1.07–69.32; 0.043). In setting ACS, are associated substantial mortality. Further, performs superior hsCRP.
