ABSTRACT
This study presents the first case report of canine trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi in Peru. The was admitted to a veterinary clinic Peruvian Amazon region San Martin with severe clinical symptomatology which resulted dog's death. Microscopy screening showed presence trypomastigotes blood and bone marrow postmortem histopathology found damage at cardiac, lung, kidney spleen levels. Collected specimens were tested nested-PCR positive for spp., but negative T. cruzi. High-throughput sequencing determined that infecting species closely related equiperdom/evansi subsequent phylogenetic analysis confirmed sample evansi. area highlights need increased surveillance assess impact surra develop measures prevent socioeconomic resulting from infections domestic farm animals as well zoonotic transmission.
