ABSTRACT
The swamp eel (Monopterus albus) is a commonly cultured freshwater fish. Selection and cultivation of fecund broodstock crucial for efficient artificial reproduction in this species. However, there are currently no guidelines selecting high-quality males M. albus. This study quantitatively investigated the sperm motility male eels during breeding season by using computer-assisted analysis system. Variability proportion number motile was observed between individual males. testes were grouped into low-quality according to quality. Morphometric parameters two groups analyzed. We found that longer (150 ± 27 mm verses 127 19 mm) than testes. Besides, with dark appearance slightly higher (58.3% 48.1%) group group. Metabolomic conducted compare metabolite profiles Glycerophospholipids, organic acids, glycerolipids, amino sphingolipids, nucleotides most abundant metabolites eels. Moreover, 135 differential identified. Several nucleotide derivatives, including 5′-deoxyadenosine, 2′-deoxyadenosine, ribosyl adenosine, significantly enriched These potential indicators testis quality Altogether, our work provides systematic quantitative data about physiological biochemical characteristics albus testis, which an evidential basis selection high-fecundity parents improve efficiency
