ABSTRACT
The present study investigated the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and dietary intake in European adolescents. comprised 1492 adolescents (770 females) from eight cities participating HELENA (Healthy Lifestyle Europe by Nutrition Adolescence) study. CRF was assessed 20 m shuttle run test. Adolescents were grouped into low high levels according to FITNESSGRAM Standards. Dietary self-registered using a computer-based tool for 24 h recalls (HELENA-Dietary Assessment Tool) on two non-consecutive days. Weight height measured, BMI calculated. Higher associated with higher total energy boys (P = 0·003). No found macronutrient (as percentage of energy), yet some positive associations daily bread/cereals dairy products both girls (all P < 0·003), regardless centre, age BMI. inversely related sweetened beverage consumption girls. These findings overall consistent when analysed categories (high/low CRF). A not compliance recommendations, except beverages 0·002).
