ABSTRACT
In the present study, effect of long-term fructose feeding on skeletal muscle mitochondrial energetics was investigated. Measurements in isolated tissue were coupled with determination whole-body energy expenditure and insulin sensitivity. A significant increase plasma NEFA, as well TAG ceramide, found fructose-fed rats compared controls, together a significantly higher response to glucose load, while no variation levels found. Significantly lower RMR values starting from week 4 dietary treatment. Skeletal mass degree coupling be controls. lipid peroxidation rats, decrease superoxide dismutase activity. Phosphorylated Akt normalised conclusion, fructose-rich diet has deep impact metabolically relevant such muscle. this tissue, consequences high are altered tolerance, elevated biogenesis increased coupling. This latter modification could have detrimental metabolic by causing oxidative stress sparing that contribute efficiency rats.
