Programme National Nutrition Santé – guidelines score 2 (PNNS-GS2): development and validation of a diet quality score reflecting the 2017 French dietary guidelines

ABSTRACT
Abstract Following the revision of French dietary guidelines in 2017, Programme National Nutrition Santé – score (PNNS-GS), built upon previous recommendations released 2001, needed to be updated. This cross-sectional study thus aimed develop and validate PNNS-GS2, a predefined food-based index based on 2017-revised nutritional guidelines. A total 80 965 participants recruited among adults (≥18 years old) NutriNet-Santé web-based prospective cohort were included. Collected data included repeated 24 h-dietary records over 2-year period, sociodemographic and, for 16 938 subjects, clinical biological data. Weighting cut-offs PNNS-GS2 components collegially arbitrated by nutrition experts who participated 2017 Sociodemographic, factors investigated according quintiles (Q) (theoretical ranging −17 +13·5). Mean was 2·1 ( sd 3·1) women −0·3 3·6) men. Higher (higher adherence guidelines) positively associated with (mean difference between Q5 Q1 women/men) age (+8·4/+4·7 years), education (+3·9/+7·4 % university level), physical activity (+13·3/+3·5 ≥60 min/d) non-smoking (+9·7/+13·7 %), negatively mean blood pressure (−3·0/−2·8 mmHg), plasma LDL-cholesterol (−0·07/−0·06 g/l) TAG (−0·10/−0·16 concentrations. also higher intake favourable nutrients, e.g. n -3 PUFA (+0·2/+0·2 energy intake), fibres (+8·7/+10·7 g) vitamin C (+36·6/+43·8 mg). Associations arguing its validation are coherent. Further studies evaluate association mortality morbidity.
