ABSTRACT
Cadmium, and its compounds, has been placed on the blacklists of most international pollution conventions by virtue toxicity, potential for bioaccumulation persistence (Taylor, 1983). The ability many marine molluscs, in particular gastropods, to accumulate Cd a high degree apparently unregulated fashion led their frequent use monitoring programmes. Thus levels winkle, Littorina littorea (L.) closely reflect gradients environmental contamination (Bryan et al . 1983), demonstrating excellent ‘indicator’ properties this group.
