ABSTRACT
Summary 141 patients with an ICD-9 diagnosis of schizophrenic psychosis were followed up prospectively for 3 years in 7 Italian centres, representative the different degrees application psychiatric reform law (Law 180) passed 1978. It was agreed that each centre would treat according to its routine, and all contacts intervention performed be carefully recorded ad hoc schedule. The baseline evaluation psychosocial adjustment by Disability Assessment Schedule (DAS), this assessment then repeated every 6 months during follow-up period. At end period, rating on DAS section 5 taken as a global measure patients’ outcome. On stepwise logistic regression analysis, 2 variables found significantly predictive outcome, is use social and/or vocational skills training (associated favourable outcome) number days/year full hospitalization poor outcome). Trieste Arezzo only centres which significant improvement score some subscales (namely, “occupational role, interest” “social withdrawal”) detected.
